Just finished up a mural in the lovely Tracey Cataldo's office. If you are at the Stranger, make up an excuse to go look at it. She is in accounting, so the easiest thing, I think, would be to write a check for ten cents or something and tell the receptionist that you must hand deliver it to whoever handles the money around those parts.
Wheeee: http://slog.thestranger.com/slog/archives/2010/03/01/wall-of-toothy-cat-dogs. Not sure why people always think they are cats... whatever. And what about the fucking dinosaur in on the right? Isn't it obvious?
I'm going to be showing some new work at Bluebird in Capitol Hill for the second Thursday art walk in December. Here is the blurb that should run with the show:
Mark VonRosenstiel has a background in mathematics, which he thinks is very clearly seen in what he makes, but very few people tend to agree. He enjoys bright colors, solid lines and ideas that start off far apart, but at the end come together. This show will exhibit some new works of house paint on paper -- mostly images of saints, dogs and giant heads. Everyone is welcomed and encouraged to bring people who they both know and have just met. More information on Mark is available at www.markvonrosenstiel.com.
There are other things, though! DJs will be keeping things moving and to motivate those that aren't sure if they want to come, there will be a keg or two free of charge.

This is a very late posting to give some follow up on the Prescriptions for Awe and Wonder show. Really I'm still blown away with how well the whole night went. Really great showing and very good response to the work. I'm going to update this posting in the next few weeks with pictures and video from the show, so please check back. To whet your appetite, here is a color test photo that Andrew Waits took for me.

The most important piece to all of this is: I am very excited about this show. This all started off as a launch party for my mural I just finished over at Graypants (you can read a post about it on their blog here), but has sort of meandered about, as ideas tend to do, and in my excitement to make others grin and click their tongue on the roof of their mouth like I do when I see new things, the show has expanded to include some other projects I've been working on.
These additional works include an updated digital video filter piece that uses pattern formation algorithms (original here), an updated/revamped peep show (original here), some concrete sculptures, a video short and some plaster animals. I may or may not get some output from a wall drawing machine I've been dinking around with over the months, but if it's not there and you ask me about it, I will be very excited to tell you about it and perhaps give you a hug.
One small idea waiting on an ocean bluff as the sky turns three shades of blue and waves sigh and murmur about the past. This idea, though, will only look to the future.
Fortune cookies may be available. Beer and infused vodkas/gins/whiskeys made by my dear dear (and newly wed) friend David Howard. All welcome.
I've moved my work from one Ladro to another. You now have a reason to go to West Seattle (nothing against the place, but seriously it's on the other side of the world).

Come to Caffe Ladro during the month of May to see some of my new paintings. The real things look better than this picture, I promise.

Recently I learned that a lamp I designed will be featured at the M+D+F Exhibition at Design Within Reach in downtown Seattle. In DWR's own words:
M+D+F 2009 is a juried exhibition of innovative furniture by emerging designers in the Seattle area.
All the winning designs will be showcased next Thursday, the 7th of May, from 6-8pm. If you're in the area, it would be great if you could swing by.

My Sister and I recently painted this mural in Salem, Or, where she works as a very very fine teacher. Not only can she make small humans follow instruction and make some really cool things, but she makes some amazing things herself. I look up to her even though I look down on her as far as height goes.
Papoosa is a dog that used to live in Costa Rica. Meghan and I seriously thought about bringing him home to Seattle, but we didn't. When we visited a second time (not for Papoosa, just the beach), he wasn't looking so good. It became apparent that he would not live for very long. Or that's what we think. So this is a tribute to the passing of a champion.

video's evolve! video filter using a pattern evolution algorithm. see the whole thing (or a moving picture piece of it) here. Runs on Processing -- actually it's my first real processing work, besides the Cantor Video, which is posted under digital/installation.

Sustainable Capitol Hill posters went up today. They're all up and around Capitol Hill. Folks over there were super nice to work with. Only thing that is annoying as hell to me is that little smirk on the large blue guy. Holy Crap. bad idea.

Installed the Houdini bike at Colman Docks in Seattle. Comes after seattle police chopped my bike lock telling me that it was common knowledge that bikes coulnd't be chained to the fence. $100 dollars later this was on the fence, which lasted about 30 minutes. It was a good 100 dollars.
